The Pax Center provides healthy meals for the community, works to increase the number of healthy food options available to its clients, offers education about fruits and vegetables, provides space to grow produce and seeks to foster a sense of community. In addition, the Pax Center provides donated clothing and client assistance such as resume building and help locating employment. The Pax Center’s mission is to help feed the hungry, love the lonely, and increase the capacity to care in LaPorte through weekly food pantries, community meals, and a dedicated resource center. The Jackson Street Community Garden is maintained by the Pax Center to help create sustainable and healthier eating alternatives in economically challenged areas and bring education to the next generation about gardening and healthy eating habits.
